Full Interview

JC Law hires and gives approximately 15 law students a year the ability to work over the summer, part-time while in law school or waiting for the bar results. With the exception of summer clerks, every clerk is working with the intent to become a full-time lawyer with JC Law.

Our structure and systems are geared toward teaching and crafting new clerks into great lawyers!

While JC Law hires lawyers at many stages of their careers, we focus on our farm system of recruiting while still in law school. Generally, to qualify for a clerkship, the following is required:

  • Day full-time law student – minimum GPA 3.50
  • Evening part-time law student – minimum GPA 3.0
  • Law Review Association or equivalent program
  • Top 25% of class ranking
  • Excellent point qualifier on in-person Interview
  • Excellent writing and organization skills

4th, 5th and 6th semester law students generally are searching for a career path with a law firm. While many factors play into this equation, generally, JC Law prefers to recruit and make an offer to a qualified candidate for an associate position at the above time. This is an “Admin Associate” position.,

Most times a student after being recruited by JC Law will receive an offer. Once that offer is accepted, the candidate can relax knowing they are lined up with one of the best law firms that will give them great opportunities!

The student will continue to complete law school. Most students will begin to clerk for us between 5 and 20 hours per week until graduation. Many, directly after graduation will add some clerking time but some may want to get a head start on focusing on the bar. As soon as the new member takes the bar they will begin clerking with us full time until the bar results are known. As the swearing in ceremony takes place, they are considered a full Admin Associate Attorney at JC Law.

Apply to Be a Premier Clerk with Our Office

Alright, buckle up, aspiring legal eagles, because I’m about to let you in on the incredibly exclusive, totally not-at-all-humble, and definitely life-altering world of JC Law clerkships! Prepare to have your minds blown by our step-by-step guide to becoming one of the chosen few.

Step 1: Apply (Duh!)

Yes, I know, revolutionary, right? To even consider gracing us with your presence, you’ll need to fill out an application. Now, I know what you’re thinking: “My resume is practically bursting with brilliance! My legal writing is so sharp it could cut diamonds!” That’s adorable. We get approximately a million applications a year, each one seemingly written by the next legal prodigy. So, make sure yours sparkles… or at least doesn’t smell faintly of desperation. And please, for the love of all that is holy, proofread.

Step 2: The Recruiting Reply (or, The Great Waiting Game)

Congratulations! You’ve sent your application into the void. Now comes the fun part: waiting. This is a crucial step in the process, designed to test your patience and your ability to resist checking your email every five minutes. Don’t bother calling, emailing, or sending carrier pigeons. We’ll get to you when we get to you. Just imagine us, huddled around a mahogany table, meticulously dissecting your GPA while sipping artisanal coffee. (Okay, maybe we’re just using a random number generator, but let’s keep the mystique alive, shall we?) If you’re lucky, you’ll receive a carefully crafted email that hints at the possibility of your potential… potential. Pat yourself on the back; you’ve made it past the first hurdle!

Step 3: The Screening Interview (Prepare to be Judged – Quickly)

So, you’ve passed the gauntlet and now have a screening interview! Excellent, you’re almost there! This is a short, sweet, and entirely terrifying introduction. This is where we get to decide if you’re even worth a real interview. Be prepared with your elevator pitch, why JC Law is the only place for you, and some fun facts about yourself (but nothing weird).

Step 4: The Full Interview (Judgment Day)

Welcome to the big leagues! This is where we really put you through the wringer. Expect insightful questions, probing inquiries, and maybe even a pop quiz on obscure legal precedents. (Just kidding… mostly.) This is your chance to shine, to convince us that you possess the legal acumen of Atticus Finch and the charisma of… someone really charismatic. Dress to impress, bring your A-game, and try not to sweat too much.

Step 5: Acceptance (Or the Sweet, Sweet Taste of Victory… Maybe)

Assuming you’ve managed to navigate the previous steps without bursting into tears or accidentally insulting a hiring partner’s alma mater, you might receive an offer. An offer! Now, the real fun begins. Revel in the fleeting glory. You’re hired!

Earning Your Stripes: From Clerk to Admin Associate Attorney (The JC Law Way)

At JC Law, we’re not just looking for warm bodies to fill chairs. We’re building the next generation of legal superstars! (Or, at least, competent lawyers who can bill hours.) That is if you have the right credentials, such as a day full-time law student—minimum GPA 3.50, evening part-time law student—minimum GPA 3.0, Law Review Association or equivalent program, top 25% of class ranking, excellent point qualifier on in-person interview, and excellent writing and organization skills.

Here’s how it works:

  • Clerk Life: You’ll start clerking for us while finishing law school, working anywhere from 5 to 20 hours a week. Think of it as a paid internship, but with more legal jargon and slightly less coffee. In those hours you’ll want to learn and absorb as much legal knowledge as possible!
  • Bar Exam Bliss (or Agony): After graduation, you’ll have the distinct pleasure of studying for the bar exam. Some of you may want to focus on the bar, while others want to continue to clerk with us. Either way, we’ll be here to support you.
  • Full-Time Clerking: Once the bar exam is over, you’ll begin clerking with us full-time until the results are released. This is your chance to prove that you actually learned something in law school (besides how to survive on ramen noodles).
  • Admin Associate Attorney: The Holy Grail! Assuming you pass the bar (and haven’t driven us completely insane), you’ll be sworn in as a full-fledged Admin Associate Attorney at JC Law. Congratulations! You’ve officially made it. Now, get ready to work. The structure and system are geared towards teaching and crafting to turn clerks into great lawyers!

So, there you have it. The inside scoop on how to become a JC Law clerk. It’s not easy, but if you’re smart, talented, and possess a healthy dose of self-deprecation, you just might have a shot. Good luck, and may the odds be ever in your favor. Now go out there and conquer the legal world… or at least survive your first deposition.
